This page keeps the most common access questions in one place. If your situation is specific or urgent, contact the office directly.
Who can access VICCIR services?
VICCIR works with immigrants, refugees, and newcomer families of all ages living on Vancouver Island. Services are available regardless of immigration status or length of time in Canada.
What kinds of concerns can counselling help with?
People reach out about trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, migration stress, family conflict, parenting strain, adjustment challenges, and the effects of violence or displacement.
Do I need to speak English?
No. VICCIR works with specially trained interpreters and multilingual practitioners so counselling can happen in the language that feels safest and clearest.
How much does counselling cost?
Fees are discussed case by case. VICCIR uses a sliding-scale approach and no one is refused care because of finances. Some clients may qualify for fully covered support, including certain refugee clients through IFHP.
Can families or couples attend together?
Yes. VICCIR often works with couples, parents, children, and whole families when that is the best fit for care.
How soon can someone be seen?
Timing depends on need and capacity, but the office aims to respond promptly and can help triage urgent situations.
Can I refer someone else?
Yes. With the person’s consent, referrals can come from relatives, teachers, doctors, settlement workers, sponsorship groups, and other trusted supporters.
